ERNIE PIFFLE'S WEEKEND REMIX Kaw Ka Kaw!
So Sebben was on vacation from the forums most of the week so not too much to report other than a new forum has opened up for the typical male who intersperses TV show and movie quotes into every other sentence. Seems like most of the guys here favor Arrested Development, so the new forum is named after that show. ![]() But there were some other goings-on and some new items scheduled for the coming week:
So see, even without Sebben around it can be busy around here. And that Mopy guy even made a rare appearance. Looks like he's gearing up for something. Keep on comin' back ya hear...and in the meantime I'm going to go down to Schnucks, get some PBR and watch the Cards all weekend. |

ST. LOUIS CLASSIC ROCK visit StLouisClassicRock.com Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell holiday on Route 66
The former Beatle, 66, and Nancy, 47 will travel in the classic 1989 Ford Bronco in which they were first spotted kissing. Their trip takes them from his holiday home in The Hamptons, New York, cross country almost 3,000 miles along the most iconic road in the country. They will pass through St Louis, Oklahoma, Amarillo and Albuquerque before ending in Santa Monica, California. Since leaving last Thursday, they have travelled almost 1,000 miles, and ended up posing for photographs at a service station in Springield, Illinois. One fan, CJ Lowder, said: "They looked totally in love. "Nancy jumped at the chance to take the picture of Paul with us. "They told us they were on a trip and going on to St Louis before heading west. No one could believe that it was really him - he was so laid back and ordinary. They seemed a great couple." The couple are expected to be together for the whole of August, the longest break they've enjoyed together. A source said: "The road trip was Nancy's idea as a way of them getting to bond and spending time together - just the two of them. "They've been talking about the holiday non-stop and were so excited. "It's the perfect way for them to both get away from it all and really get to know each other. Paul even packed his guitar."

MY MUSIC #1 - "Amazing Grace" - Victor Wooten
I cannot describe the superlatives behind this bassline (or how impossible it is for mere mortals to play). Instead I must resign myself to listen and be in awe.

MY MUSIC #2 - "The Real Me" - The Who (John Entwistle)
Do I have to explain why this is a great bassline? Just watch dernit. And he came up with it on the first try - explaining to Pete Townsend that it was just joke filler and he'd replace it with something more thought out on future takes. Townsend told him he better not. Makes you wonder though what I could put in front of this one at #1 right?

MY MUSIC #3 - "Ramble On" - Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones)
The way John Paul Jones locks his bass into John Bonham's drumming is typical for a Led Zeppelin song, but his melody and rhythm he puts on top of it not only enhances Bonzo's already impressive stamina and style, but compliments the breaks in Page's guitar playing and Plant's vocals as if it were a third set of vocals answering behind everything (Page's guitar being the second.)

MY MUSIC #4 "Bernadette" - The Four Tops (James Jamerson)
I couldn't find a non-live video of the song on YouTube, so I chose one that really highlights the bass playing. It also shows how technically it's not all over the fretboard, but rather, with a few simple movements a strong bassline can be created. The same goes with "Dear Prudence" - there's not much movement around the board. James Jamerson was the Motown session bassist, uncredited on most of that label's hits in the 60s and early 70s including tracks by Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes, Gladys Knight and the Pips and Marvin Gaye. So he beats the Beatles with having the most #1 hits under his recording belt with almost 30 pop hits and 70 R&B chart toppers. I like this line for similar reasons to "Dear Prudence" - it perfectly fits a song it has nothing else in common with. This line is bolder and more urgent, which goes with the lyrics and vocals, and it flashes efficiently without being overdone. The song was released in February 1967, just in time to help influence some of the basslines of Sgt Pepper and then The White Album.
